Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year

Message from the President:

Well here we are in December again and all so soon!  I am pleased to advise that we have taken delivery of the fairway mower and it is performing very well.  Whilst it does not have a roof it is so much more comfortable to operate in that no grass is blown back at the driver covering them from head to toe in grass clippings.

The committee has decided, after a letter of suggestion from a member, to apply a cart levy of $50.00 per annum for cart owners beginning on 1st January 2017. The funds raised will be used wholly for the purpose of building cart paths around the course.  The benefits will be great for all users, including buggy pushers, as it will give a firm base to walk on clear of mud and water.  The building of the path to the 4th tee is a testament to their value.  If any other members would like to contribute please do.

A big thank you to all those people that helped make the Tamar Valley A Grade competition such a success.  Heaps of praise for the organisation and smooth running of the competition as well as praise for our wonderful course were received.  Well done.

On behalf of the committee Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year to you and all your families.   Murray Lehner, President.

Important Notice:   Subscriptions are now overdue as at the 1st November 2016.  Any member who has not paid their subs in full or who have not made arrangements with the Club for payment by 1st January 2017 will not be eligible for prizes or recognised in results on competition days.  As at today we have some $15,000.00 plus in overdue subs.  We have unfortunately had to dip into our savings because of many days washed out this year, a practice we don’t want to see continue.  If you have not payed subscriptions please do so before the end of the year.

Co-Captains Report:

As Co-Captains we were delighted that 70 people attended the Club’s Chrissy Cheer and Celebration of Club Champions on Friday, 16th December.  Guest speaker was one or our junior members, Mack Blazely who spoke about the month he spent in Cambodia and Vietnam with 19 other Riverside High School students.  Mack certainly captured his audience when he spoke about what the group did, building walls, teaching the children, trekking and generally experiencing living in poverty from which all the students came back very different people and appreciating what they have at home.  There were many highlights including how resilient the children are and how they as a group came back friends for life.  Thank you Mack for inspiring us all..

Congratulations to all our champions, Ladies, Vets and Club.

Thank you to our official photographer for the night, Phil Craw.  Visit our website for highlights of the night.  Thank you also to the Club’s Social Team and Pene Green for co-ordinating the event.

Tamar Valley Cup

The Club will be hosting juniors from all over Australia who will travel here in January for the Tamar Valley Cup.  Again we are calling on the generosity of the Greens Beach community to host a junior.  They will be here from the 14th to 17th January.  If you are able to help please give Terry a call on 0418 537 038. …Terry Jordan & Richard Landherr, Co-Captains.

Course Report:

Well what a change we have had in the weather, finally things are slowly drying out!

With the assistance of Dad’s Army we are currently in the process of top dressing the tee beds.  The thistles behind the 7th green and on the right hand side of the 8th fairway have been sprayed.

The new fairway mower has been going a treat and the fairways are looking pretty good!

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! ….Peter Blazely, Greenkeeper.

Veterans Golf News: Hello from the Vets.  I’m very pleased to say that we are maintaining great fields for our comps; we have a couple of new members but mainly we are getting good roll ups each week and I put this down to our relaxed friendly atmosphere and that all our competitions are on nett scores so that all players have an equal chance to win. Our Championships are done and dusted, with the following results: A grade winner Wayne McConachy, B grade winner Phil Edwards.  Thanks to all who competed and that was approximately 30 for each of the rounds (2 x 18 holes). We had our annual dinner at Tamar Cove on the 14th December, attended by 29 members and partners.  As the Club has had a difficult year weather wise and funds from competitions – Ladies, Vets and Saturdays was very much depleted the Vets Committee decided that our dinner this year would not be subsidised from funds raised so all monies are passed onto Greens Beach Golf Club.  We will consider whether this will be ongoing. Our thanks once again to Peter Blazely and Phil Neville for their great work. … Wayne McConachy, President.
Ladies Golf News:
