January 2017 Newsletter

Message from the President:

Well the Tamar Valley Junior Cup has been run and won. A really big thanks to Peter Blazely who along with his band of volunteers presented our course at its best, well done indeed.

Graham Moloney as Tournament Director had things running smoothly. The usual volunteers made the event happen and a big thanks to them all.

Some minor repairs will be done soon around the Clubhouse which hopefully will not impact on the general day to day running of the Club.

As advised the cart levy has, for the moment, been abandoned and the committee will revisit this to raise funds to make pathways not cart paths for all to use.

Drainage issues and water storage on the course will be addressed shortly and it is hoped this will not interfere with play too much, if at all. .… Murray Lehner, President.

Co-Captains Report:

The Tamar Valley Junior Cup was held at Greens Beach over 3 days – 15th to the 17th January with 47 juniors competing.  Players came from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia along with our own Tasmanian entrants.  The boys event was won by Mitch Varley from Queensland followed closely by Harrison Crowe from New South Wales.  The girls event was won by our own Tasmanian Zahara Lemon from the Tasmanian Golf Club with Casey Cook from New South Wales a very close second.

Events like this just don’t happen with a lot of people involved.  Our sincere appreciation goes out to the Tournament Director, Graham Moloney and all the helpers over the 3 days – airport pickups, monitors out on the course, assistance in the Clubhouse and the Ladies manning the kitchen.

A big thank you also to those members who helped out with billets.

As Graham Moloney quoted in the paper “The Greens Beach Golf Club came out on top as I think everyone was impressed with the event.” …. Terry Jordan & Richard Landherr, Co-Captains.

Course Report:

The course has dried up considerably, however we have had just enough rain to keep things green without excessive watering.

We have had a busy start to 2017 with the Junior Cup and I believe the course was in pretty good condition!  I would like to thank all the volunteers who turned up to help out with edging and resanding the bunkers prior to the Junior Cup.  I would particularly like to acknowledge the assistance Peter Lowe has given me over the last month to get the course ready.  Also thank you to Peter Kerslake and Peter Byrne who turned up every morning during the Junior Cup to do the bunkers, your help was greatly appreciated.

Peter Blazely, Greenkeeper.
